The year started with the appointment of Trinity's Caroline Goodwin as Queen’s Counsel. At a ceremony held in February at Westminster Hall, the Lord Chancellor presented Caroline with Letters Patent from Her Majesty The Queen.

Trinity Criminal and Regulatory barrister, Yvonne Taylor then travelled over 4000 miles to the remote island of St Helena where she was instructed by the Attorney General to prosecute three historic sex cases and an attempted murder.

In June, Head of Trinity Chambers Toby Hedworth Q.C. received the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Northern Law Awards 2017. The award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the legal profession in the region and to their organisation. Reflecting on receiving the Award Toby Hedworth Q.C. said, 'Any professional success that I have enjoyed has been largely because of the guidance and support of those around me in Chambers. I regard this award as very much being for everyone, the barristers and the staff, at Trinity Chambers'.

Trinity's successful Charity Race Night held in September, raised £2000 in support of the Graham Wylie Foundation. The event, held at Newcastle Racecourse, took place on the same evening as the Newcastle United 125th Anniversary Race Night in association with the British Masters at Close House. Graham Wylie and members of the Foundation team visited Chambers to collect the sums raised from Toby Hedworth Q.C.

In the Autumn, Trinity's silks, barristers and indeed staff, were again recognised in both the Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 directories: ‘an exceptional service to professional and lay clients, and counsel and clerks are always willing to assist – nothing is too much trouble’ Legal 500 2017. Commenting on the listings, Toby Hedworth Q.C. said: ‘Trinity, the only Tier 1 chambers headquartered in the North East, continues to grow to meet the demands and needs of its clients. Now with more practice groups to deal with specific areas of expertise, Trinity offers the highest quality specialist advice and advocacy in virtually all areas of law.’

Hopefully heralding the launch of the North East's own Business and Property Court in 2018, His Honour Judge Philip Kramer was welcomed as Newcastle's first full time Specialist Civil Circuit Judge by Trinity barrister, Simon Goldberg. The appointment will benefit the region's thriving legal sector and the individuals and businesses it supports.

The eventful year concluded with the publication of a book detailing the history of Trinity's home, The Custom House.

In addition, the barristers have continued to contribute to a range of seminars, events and collaborations throughout the year covering topics such as children and family arbitrations, civil and criminal costs, personal injury, clinical negligence, workplace safety, child care, human rights, housing, licensing and commercial disputes.

Finally, 2017 has also been a busy year for recruitment in Chambers, with new joiners including Helen Marshall, Alice Richardson, Graham Bartlett, Grace Morton, Verity Adams and Alex Littlefair. In response to continued growth and new client wins, Trinity has again recruited two pupils, Steven Reed and Emma Hughes.
